Dear Friends and Wine lovers,
Welcome to Le Dû’s Wines, we’re open for business! We’ve finally kicked the construction crew out of the store (Just a matter of speech as they did a wonderful job), moved the wine in, cleaned the dust out and are ready to present you with a selection of some of our favorite wines from around the World.

While I’ve met many of you during my ten years tenure as Chef Sommelier at fabulous Restaurant Daniel in New York, it had been my dream for a long time to open up a top quality retail wine store in Manhattan. Well, I have now made this vision a reality and I have to say that it has been a wonderful, albeit challenging, adventure so far.

The location.
Having lived in Manhattan since 1985, it had always been my wish to open a business in the West Village, which to me is the quintessential New York neighborhood. A place where, if the cobble stoned streets could talk, they would regal us with tales about Aaron Burr, Jack Kerouac and Bob Dylan. A neighborhood where the streets zigzag in every directions lending themselves to daydreaming, unlike the more ordinate Uptown avenues. This is not to say that you will have a hard time finding us as we are very conveniently located at 600 Washington Street, between Morton and Leroy Street, just a block north of the Clarkson Street exit on the West Side Highway. And even if you don’t feel like visiting us, we’ll gladly deliver to your door, wherever you might live.

And the wine, you ask…?
Well, we’ve spent the last year tasting, swirling and spitting copious amounts of wine (OK, we did swallow the tastier stuff but had to suffer through a fair amount of swill as well) in order to offer you a selection of our favorite picks.

We’ve handpicked these wines, all produced as naturally as possible by passionate winemakers around the world, because of their high level of quality , true varietal character, harmony of aromas and flavors, and last but not least, sense of place (What the French called Terroir). They were all selected regardless of score or review in various publications.

While we have tremendous respect for the insight of some of the great wine critics published either independently or through the medium of a wine magazine (Names like Robert Parker Jr., Allen Meadows, Michel Bettane, The Wine Spectator, Decanter Magazine, Gambero Rosso, and a few others come immediately to mind), the selections proposed at our store are a reflection of our personal taste and passion for wine.

Don’t get us wrong, as any wine lover would, we devour every issue of these publications from cover to cover We learn of up and coming winemakers, become intrigued in new wine regions through their writing and constantly taste new wines based on their recommendations. However, we ultimately believe in our own palate and ability to offer you a selection of wines that have struck a chord with us.

Some of them will age gracefully in your cellar for decades to come and some are meant to be enjoyed in the freshness of their youth. Some are full bodied, sun kissed and weighty, others light, fruity and thirst quenching. Some wear their austerity and mineral flavors on their sleeve but then others, if you were to close your eyes, will transport you to a fruit orchard.
