"If I could wish super hard and just POOF things into existence, it would be a database of all the pre-phylloxera vines in the world. I am in the camp that says vine age is one of the most under-discussed attributes which go into making a wine great. That might be my history loving brain tricking my palate but I feel like I can almost taste the years. In this case, we're looking a tiny walled Clos with possibly the oldest Cabernet Franc vines in all of France. As far as anyone can tell, the reason the phylloxera pest didn't make into Clos de Maulevrier are the stone walls. That's it. A tiny little bug got to a stubby stone wall and just didn't make the hop. Which means have around 1,000 bottles a year of this remarkable wine."
