"I need to be careful not to end up writing an entire essay on Dujac and their place in Burgundy history because books could be (and perhaps already have) been written on that subject. Suffice to say, Dujac was part of the crew of producers along with Mugnier, Rousseau, and Roumier who are the foundation stones for modern Burgundy, in terms of quality. For anyone who has been interacting with Burgundy in the 21st century, it might blow your mind to realize how much this greatest of wine regions struggled in the second half of the 20th century. There were a lot of underperforming, rough & tumble Burgundy when Jacques Seysses came along with his and changed the game."
"Dujac was and remains the exemplar of whole-cluster fermentation. This was a bit of a zag back in the day because Henri Jayer had laid a groundwork for Burgundy which involved entirely de-stemmed Pinot. The trouble is if you do whole-cluster, you have to be INSANE in the vineyards, otherwise you end up with burly, green wines. Dujac has always been insane in the vineyards. Specifically, their Clos de la Roche, one of the great Grand Cru in all of Burgundy. It is quite a thing to be THE defining producer in a vineyard of this quality and history but that's exactly what Dujac has been achieving over the last 40 years."

"The 2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is much more rich and extravagant on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis. Red plums, redcurrant and light rose petal scents are joined by potpourri with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins and a fine bead of acidity. This is a lavish and sensual Clos de la Roche with an almost crystalline finish. Outstanding.”
