"Simon Colin is my favorite young producer of Chassagne Montrachet, full stop. He is a "new" producer in the sense that the estate with his name on it is new but he is the son of Phillipe Colin, so he's inherited some great parcels from his Dad. His style matches Chassagne perfectly. These are emotional wines. They speak to the heart, not the head. He is very much in the new generation of Burgundian vignerons who favor acidity over extract but these are not linear to the point of being cold."

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru has a clean, precise nose featuring freshly baked popcorn and citrus fruit notes. It's quite charming, with hints of apricot in the background. The palate is well defined with a silver bead of acidity, yellow plum and hints of vanilla pod, but it has wonderful tension and quite a persistent finish. This vineyard performed well in 2023 and Colin is quickly becoming one of its best exponents.
