"This is a great example of how one should view an overall verdict of a vintage as just that...an overview. And by "one" I mean me and the vintage is 2019. I don't really like it, as a whole. I find the wines to be lacking the classical edge that I favor in Bordeaux. It was a tough year with some serious heat spikes so many of the wines are overly rich in fruit with very little beneath. But, there are always exceptions and Canon La Gaffeliere is certainly that. My gosh is this a delicious wine. The Merlot is just sexy as all get out but I don't feel like the round, purple fruit has ended up staining my soul. Right when you think it is going to be too much, it pulls back and leaves you wanting more."

"Aromas of dark plums, blueberries, bark, dried leaves, mahogany, licorice and nutmeg. It’s medium-to full-bodied with silky, ripe tannins. Layered and supple with a stylish and polished finish. Voluptuous. One of the best in a long time. Drink from 2026."
