One of the things I love about Fifth growths (Third through Fifths really) is that they are estates that have something to prove. Château Haut-Bages-Libéral is one of those Cinderella stories where year after year they inserted themselves into the conversation of the top Pauillacs by sheer force of quality.

2000, the landmark vintage that ushered in the promise of great Bordeaux moving into the 21st Century. Balanced with ripe fruit and vibrant acidity, time has softened the wine into a silky and complex wine that is quintessential Pauillac.

2010, which as noted before, was stellar, offering a bit more youth and structure at this point in aging. It's fantastic to drink and can hold up to food.
