Quivira, Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2012

Quivira, Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 750ML 2012
Sku: 000000037728

The pig depicted on the bottles of Quivira Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel is a local hybrid race of wild boar, the predecessors of which arrived in the region around the same time vineyards were first being planted in the area. Thereís a long held rivalry between the swine and the winemakers, as in the dead of summer when the boarís natural food sources start to grow scarce, they are tempted down into the valley vineyards to sample the ripening Zinfandel grapes. But who could blame them, if off the vine these grapes are as delightful as they are by the time they hit your glass? Itís a hazard that has inspired a local favorite pairing for the finished wine, Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel and wild boar sausage.

Youíll find classic Zin flavors coming from Quivira: brambly berry fruit, black mission fig, a bit of briar patch. The wine is full bodied, but manages to avoid that globbed up, jammy heaviness that one might expect from New World Zinfandel in this price point. The oak influence is moderate, so itís all about the fresh acidity lifting dark fruit flavors to something satisfying and pure. Give it a try with your next pork roast or anything off the grill.
