Chateau d'Escurac Medoc 2009

Chateau d'Escurac Medoc 750ML 2009
Sku: 000000036919

Wonderful classic aromas of cedar, eucalyptus, and green tobacco give way on the palate to finely detailed black cherry and blackcurrant flavors, as well as wonderful tension and grip. Chewy and substantial, but does not want for any polish and grace.

The Landureau family has owned this 23-hectare property since 1934. This estate has a pedigree going back to the early 19th century, and while previous generations dabbled in horse ranching, of all things, when current owner Jean Marc Landureau took the helm, he refocused his attentions to winemaking and has turned out some wonderful examples of classical Cru Bourgeois Médoc. The vines are farmed lutte raisonée, and as in the vineyard, interventions in the cellar are limited and considered on a case-by-case basis. The first three aromas in my tasting note are, to me, some of the most obvious trademark aromas in Cabernet Sauvignon, so you'll imagine my surprise to learn that this wine is composed of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for twelve months in barriques, one-third of which are new.
