Dear Friends and Wine Lovers... We are pleased to announce a very special wine dinner...
Au Bon Climat/Qupé
Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00pm
Geoffrey Zakarian's Country
Carlton Hotel - 90 Madison Avenue (Corner of 29th Street)
Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat and Bob Lundquist of
Qupé are two of the most passionate and visionary winemakers in California. Calling them
pioneers doesn’t do justice to the wine trails they have blazed. In the 1980’s Jim literally put Pinot Noir on the map in the United States with his lush, focused wines at
Au Bon Climat, while Bob was the original "Rhône Ranger" establishing Syrah, Grenache and Roussanne in California under the Qupé label. They both have illustrious
resumés too long to include in this email, but highlights include Jim Clendenen being named "Winemaker of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and the Los Angeles
Times, and Bob Lindquist was chosen as one of the "50 Most influential Winemakers" by "Wine and Spirits Magazine".
Jim and Bob who share a production facility north of Santa Barbra, are known for creating wines with the ability to age gracefully. To
help make the point, they have agreed to bring some special vintage library selections from their cellars as well as their current releases to pour for us.
We believe that Jim's and Bob's larger than life personalities guarantee this as our liveliest and most energetic dinner to date.
We think you will find our restaurant selection to be as inspired as our winemakers. Geoffery Zakarian's Country
was one of the most well received restaurant openings in 2006, garnering
rave reviews across the board for its masterful interpretation of American cuisine, elegant design and impeccable service. It has received three stars from the
New York Times, one Michelin star and was chosen "Best Restaurant" in 2006 from Newsday, New York Magazine, Esquire and Travel and Leisure magazine. We will be
enjoying our dinner in one of Country's stylish private rooms.
In addition to the great food and wine, this will be a release party for the new vintage of our special collaboration with Jim Clendenon,
Le Dû's Wines' Chardonnay, 2004. This is the second year that Jim has bottled our private label barrel, using fruit sourced from the coolest site in the Bien Nacido
The full menu and wines will be included in our next email...
Dinner includes 3 courses & wines to match.
Price is $150 per person including tax & gratuity.

WINE OF THE WEEK
Schrader - Double Diamond "Amber Knolls Vineyard" 2004
Cabernet Sauvignon - Red Hills, Lake County, California
We can pontificate on a wine's terroir, breed and elegance with the best of them. We can tear apart a wine and break down the elements like true wine geeks... but
sometimes all we want is a mouthful of juicy California Cabernet Sauvignon.
We opened the Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon for lunch the other day and blind tasted it for one of our resident super
palates. Our boy genius nailed the grape and the location, but when we asked him the price he guessed over twice our shelf price. At that moment we knew the Double
Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon would be our next "Wine of the Week".
The Double Diamond is a fun, accessible, unpretentious bottle filled with ripe berries and hints of lavender and nutmeg which
give it depth. This is the perfect bottle for casual drinking with a few friends, but it would also make a great match with Osso Bucco or a glazed Virginia Ham. A quick
decanting wouldn't hurt either to help integrate the flavors of this classy, small production (650 cases) bottle. Here’s the deal...
The regular shelf price is $29.99
We're selling it this week for $28.50 per bottle!
Buy six bottles and the price goes down to $26.99 per bottle!!
Buy twelve bottles and the price goes down to $25.49 per bottle!!!
This sale ends on Sunday March 4th. Please order
on-line or by e-mailing us at
