Priorat Seminar with Marta Rovira from Mas d'en Gil
Friday, March 23rd - $65

Priorat In just 20 years, Priorat has transformed itself from an obscure and forgotten wine region to the most expensive in Spain. Valued for it balanced power and ability to age, Priorat has also developed a reputation for its unique mineral character which is derived from the roots of the vines digging deep into the rocky "llicorella" soil of the steep hillside vineyards. This is one region where you can taste the "terroir" in every glass.

We are honored to have as our special guest lecturer, Marta Rovira from Mas d'en Gil. The Robb Report chose Mas d'en Gil's, Clos Fonta as the "best of the best in international red wines - 2005". Marta will be pouring several vintages of Clos Fonta, Coma Vella her second wine, and her extraordinary white Coma Blanca, including the unreleased 2004.

Marta will also bring a bottle of her exquisite, unfiltered olive oil produced from the centuries old olive trees on the Mas d'en Gil estate for us to sample.

How to Taste Wine
Wednesday, March 28th - $60

Tasting This seminar will reveal a few fundamental techniques that can dramatically increase your drinking pleasure. Tasting wine involves three senses (sight, smell and taste) that identify four primary components (sugar, alcohol, acid and tannins). Once you develop the skills to distinguish those elements a whole new world will open up as your senses will be heightened and you will be able to communicate more eloquently about the flavors you taste.

All wines will be tasted blind for this seminar which will be taught by Yannick Benjamin, who finished 2nd in the "Best Sommelier in America" competition (but first in the blind tasting segment) a few weeks ago. During his preparation for this very prestigious contest, Yannick trained every Saturday in our shop with some of the most talented sommeliers in the country... Learn to taste without any preconceptions.

Bordeaux Master Class with Jean-Luc Le Dû
Thursday, April 5th - $150

Le Patron This will be an in-depth seminar on the different terroirs of Bordeaux. We’ll be uncorking a select group of extraordinary bottles from top Bordeaux producers to help you gain insight into the wine region that has set the standards for the rest of the world. This will be a unique opportunity to understand how great Bordeaux and Sauternes evolve with one of the true authorities in the field. Here’s what we will be opening...

White Wine and Cheese Pairing with Murray's Cheese

Murrays Please join Jean-Luc Le Dû and Nora Singley from Murray's Cheese as they steer us through the tricky world of wine and cheese pairings. No single wine will work with every cheese, so what does make a great wine and cheese match? What role does texture, pungency and sweetness play? Is white wine really a better match than red for cheese? Decide for yourself while you savor a delicious selection of Murray's cheese paired with the appropriate wines.

We will be offering two 45 minute seminars at 6:30pm and 7:45 pm
Seating is limited and reservations are required.
The price is only $30

Luca This Friday we are thrilled to welcome the great Barolo winemaker Luca Currado to our shop. The Vietti family are renowned for two centuries of expert winemaking and an amazing collection of grand cru vineyards. Currado worked at California's Opus One and Bordeaux's Mouton-Rothschild in the 1980's before taking over the reins of the family winery in 1990. He introduced modern winemaking techniques and brought the winery to the upper echelon in Piedmont. Come and join Currado as we taste through the following highly rated wines...

Slovenian Tasting with Emil Gaspari

Lake Bled We love discovering quality wines from off the beaten path locations. This Saturday we will taste through a superb collection of wines from Slovenia. Slovenia has a strong wine tradition dating back to ancient times, and since it straddles Friuli in Italy, there are common styles and grape varieties in both areas. If you love wine, don’t miss this fun tasting. Here’s what we’ll be pouring...

Santomas "Big Red Vinters Choice" 2000 - Refosko/Cabernet/Merlot.
Rustic but possibly Slovenia’s greatest red wine.

Graben 2003 - Sauvignon Blanc.
This is the wildest Sauvignon Blanc we have ever tasted... it has 15.99% alcohol and 7.6 grams of residual sugar but still finishes dry!

Santomas 2004 - Malvasia.
Our new favorite wine under $15...an amazing value.

Guerila 2005 - Pinela.
Pinela...? We'd never heard of the grape either but it tastes great!

Tilia 2005 - Pinot Gris.
What did you expect it is right across the border from Friulia?

Batic Valentino 2003 - Ribolla Gialla.
An amazing desert wine that tastes like a slice apple pie with cinnamon and nutmeg.
