Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,

In just 20 years, Priorat has transformed itself from an obscure and forgotten Spanish wine region to the most expensive in Spain. It took the vision of a few wine pioneers, some very old vines and the unique slate soil known as llicorella to fashion the newest superstar from Spain.

Valued for it balanced power and ability to age, Priorat has also developed a reputation for a new world fruity sheen due to the blend of international grape varieties that ripen easily in the hot Mediterranean sun. What really sets the wine apart though, is the distinct mineral character derived from the roots digging deep into the rocky soil of the steep hillside vineyards.

Unfortunately all the elements that create Priorat's unique character (poor soil, hillside vineyards and old vines) mean limited production, and limited production means high prices... so we have chosen the second wines of two of the top producers, Alvaro Palacios (the original Priorat winemaker) and Mas Doix (one of the original Priorat farming familes) to allow you the opportunity to sample the unique flavors of Priorat.

Alvaro Palacios "Les Terrasses" 2004
Carignan, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
Mas Doix "Salanques" 2004
Garnacha, Carignan, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
