Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,
Last Wednesday we hosted an extraordinary seminar with famed Hermitage winemaker Marc Sorrel.
This gentle farmer is a true artist in the vineyard and cellar. Tasting his 1990 Hermitage ‘Le Gréal’ back to back with his 2004 was an eye-opening
education in masterful winemaking. The 1990 has matured gracefully with leather, herbs and a distinctive sauvage element, while his 2004 was a
textbook example of Northern Rhône Syrah, unexpectedly rich and ripe with gobs of meat, dark fruit and spice.
We expected greatness from Sorrel’s Hermitage but we all agreed that the sleeper of the night was his
Crozes-Hermitage Blanc, 2004. Initially we were surprised by the depth of this 50/50 Marsanne/Rousanne blend until we found out it was sourced
from vines that are 60 years old!! It has a distinct minerality and sensual mouthfeel found only in great white Hermitage plus a satisfying heft
and roundness derived from twelve months in old oak.
We are calling this wine, “the perfect winter white” because we are sure it will stand up to any winter fare on
the up-coming cold nights.
The shelf price for the Marc Sorrel, Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 2004 is only $24.99. Our internet special reduces
