Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,

Domaine Fontaine Gagnard is a classic Domaine of almost 20 acres based primarily in Chassagne-Montrachet. Winemaker Richard Fontaine is known as one of the most exacting, painstaking vignerons in all of Chassagne, applying traditional methods and the cleanest possible techniques, both in the vineyard and in his immaculate cellar. Richard considers 2004 a “...relatively generous vintage and classic in style” with good acidity and a perfect match for his wine style, implying that he felt it matched his winemaking techniques far more than other more celebrated vintages.

Alan Meadows, the Burgundy expert says "...Richard Fontaine continues to knock the cover off the ball, performing well in good vintages and bad and even more remarkably doing so in both colors."

Fans of classically styled Burgundies will appreciate the pure, clean, vibrant flavors of these highly rated wines.

In France the ringing of bells to announce a set of prayers to commemorate the Annunciation and the Incarnation is called the Angelus. In the oldest part of the Chateau Angelus vineyard you can hear the bells from the three neighboring churches.

Chateau Angelus has been owned by the De Bouard family for four generations. While the wines have always been excellent and worthy of their classification in the top tier of the wines of St Emilion, the arrival of perfectionist Hubert de Bouard at the helm of the winery in the mid-eighties has taken the quality of this fabled vineyard to new heights. Robert Parker wrote that “it is only justice that Angelus was elevated to premier grand cru status in 1996’s reclassification”.

Hubert, who will be our host for this dinner, is making some of the greatest wines in Bordeaux, wines that rival in quality the 2 standard bearers of the St Emilion appellation, Cheval Blanc and Ausone.
