Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,

At the top of the hill in Corton, straddling the sleepy villages of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix, and Pernand-Vergelesses rests the great white Burgundy vineyard of Corton-Charlemagne. Legend has it that the European Emperor Charlemagne owned this site 1,200 years ago because its terroir was so prized, even in that day, as the source of long lived white Burgundies. Vincent Girardin’s family has been working vines on the Corton hill since the 17th century, making as Vincent says, “real burgundies that are terroir-driven and truly reflect their sense of place.”

Along the way Vincent has become one of the most respected white wine makers in all of Burgundy and his Corton Charlemagne is the jewel in his crown. He attributes its flinty glory to the struggle of the gnarly, old vines struggling to dig their roots through the limestone soil ten feet into the rocks below.

Girardin His 2004 Corton Charlemagne has been released to some of his highest praise yet. Alan Meadows of Burghound, the world’s most respected source on Burgundy, gave the Girardin Corton Charlemagne 2004 90-93 points and wrote that “ apple, wood spice and brown butter notes introduce incredibly intense, huge and very ripe flavors that drive though to an explosive and palate staining finish. This is a big wine carrying plenty of wood yet there is a good chance that it will successfully integrate it with a few years in bottle as there is terrific dry extract here.

We are offering the Girardin Corton Charlemagne 2004 for $73 a bottle. This is rock bottom….no further discounts apply.

On Friday September 22nd from 5:30-8:00pm, we are honored to welcome Philippe Blanck from the great Alsace Domaine Paul Blanck. I have enjoyed and sold his wines for over a decade as they represent to me the epitome of quality from that beautiful French wine region. Dry, aromatic and complex, they pair amazingly well with food and are also a treat to enjoy on their own. You will be delighted when you meet Philippe as he is one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiast winemakers I’ve ever met. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste the best of Alsace with one of France’s most talented winemakers.
