Dear Friends and Wine Lovers,
We are pleased to announce the first of our fall series of wine dinners... Please come and join us on Monday, September 18th at 7:00pm for our
Shafer Vineyards’ Dinner. This event will be held at
Daniel Boulud’s - DB Bistro Moderne, 55 West 44th Street, and promises to be one of our best pairings yet!
When I was a rookie sommelier many years ago at the West Village institution, One If By Land, Two If By Sea,
the first winemaker to visit me was Doug Shafer from Shafer Vineyards. He instantly won me over with his passion and the superb quality of his
Hillside Cabernet Sauvignons from the Stags’ Leap area of Napa. Yes, they were ripe and boisterous like many top Napa wines, but they also
possessed enticing aromas, a complexity of flavors and an underlying minerality unmatched by its peers. Doug was showing the 1992 vintage
then, and he hasn’t disappointed me with a vintage of his wines since. As a matter of fact, I consider Shafer wines to be among the 2 or 3
best estates in the whole of Napa Valley!
Shafer has just released its 2002 “Hillside Select” Cabernet Sauvignon to unprecedented praise... it was
awarded a perfect 100 point score by Robert Parker. To celebrate, Le Dû’s Wines is proud to invite you to an intimate evening featuring the
James Beard Award winning food of Daniel Boulud’s, DB Bistro Moderne served with the superlative wines of Shafer Vineyards.
Our special guest for this event will be Melissa Prang, General Manager of Shafer Vineyards.
She will be pouring the new “Hillside Select” 2002, which I believe is a wine legend in the making and what might be my all time favorite Shafer,
the “Hillside Select” 1996, a 98 pointer from Robert Parker…..This will be an evening you will not forget.

UP-COMING IN STORE EVENTS
Cool off this evening, Thursday August 31st, from 5:30-8:00pm with sparkling wines from around the world.
As summer draws to a close and preparations start for Labor Day festivities we can’t think of a better way to
celebrate than with some sparkle and pop. Who doesn’t love sparkling wine? It always creates a festive atmosphere and is completely
underrated as an accompaniment for food. A bottle of sparkling wine makes a great change of pace for Labor Day BBQ’s.
Paul Kirk the
award winning, Baron of BBQ recommends Champagne with smoked meats, serving it at his restaurant R.U.B on 23rd street. Rather than
competing with the intense flavor of charred swine, sparkling wine cleans the palate making each bite more flavorful than the last. Try a dry
Champagne like the Gardet or a Spanish Cava
like the Marques de Gelida. If you enjoy that,
experiment with some Champagne and scrambled eggs, sushi, hard aged cheese or spicy Asian food, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Prosecco is an Italian fizzie that makes a perfect liquid accompaniment for picnics and BBQ’s. The
Nino Franco Rustico was chosen as the best Prosecco
in the New York Times on June 21st. Try blending some Prosecco with peach juice for a refreshing Bellini.
Lambrusco is rarely thought of in a food context but it can also be an innovative accompaniment for your
outdoor gathering. We’re not talking about the cloyingly sweet version popular in America but the dry, frizzante style drunk in Emiglia Romagna,
Italy. The Ceci Lambrusco, is a serious,
biodynamic wine that goes well with cold cuts, barbecued chicken or grilled vegetables.
Come on down and taste all these fizzies for free... 10% discount on any wine poured.
